Blastomussa Coral
Blastomussa are a fantastic LPS coral, prized for their large, fleshy polyps and intense colouration. When fully expanded, each polyp develops a plump, rounded appearance that makes a healthy colony look incredibly full and vibrant.
Generally considered a relatively straightforward LPS to keep, Blastomussa tend to prefer lower to moderate lighting and gentle water movement, making them a good choice for sheltered areas of the reef.
Care Guide
Care Level: Easy–Moderate
Lighting: Low–Moderate
PAR: Approx. 50–120
Flow: Low–Moderate, indirect
Placement: Lower–Middle areas of the aquarium
Temperament: Generally peaceful
Feeding: Photosynthetic, but benefits from occasional targeted feeding
Growth: Moderate once established
Recommended Parameters
Temperature: 24–26°C
Salinity: 1.025–1.026 SG
Alkalinity: 7.5–9 dKH
Calcium: 400–450 ppm
Magnesium: 1250–1400 ppm
Nitrate: 2–15 ppm
Phosphate: 0.03–0.10 ppm
Blastomussa can be sensitive to excessive light or strong, direct flow, so starting them lower in the aquarium and allowing them time to acclimate is usually the safer approach. Once settled, their inflated polyps and vivid fluorescence make them an impressive addition to an LPS reef.
Coral appearance and colour intensity can vary depending on aquarium lighting, spectrum and individual system conditions.
